I enrolled for the Legal Secretaries Diploma course due to the fact that since I was young I always dreamt of being a Solicitor. As I grew up, I undertook experience in major law firms – Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Pinsent Masons. After these experiences my passion for law was confirmed, so I sought to look for relevant experience and to get a qualification before I began my Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL).
I really look forward to my studies every Wednesday at the Institute, mainly due to the fact that I enjoy the way my tutor teaches; he is very interactive and fully explains each module and is so willing to answer questions.
I was initially worried about doing a three-hour evening class, worrying about whether I’ll be attentive for the whole three hours, but he is definitely amazing. Throughout the three hours I am highly attentive and contribute when able to.
What interests me about law is how useful it is; not many civilians know their rights and law is full of so much information and knowledge, I honestly think there should be more of an emphasis for more people to learn law. From these lessons, I’ve been able to take things away and apply them to my personal life.

I started the Legal Secretaries Diploma course on Monday 30 September, and I absolutely love it. Eleven years ago I used to work as a Trademark/Patent Secretary, but for the last 10 years I have been a stay-at-home mum and working part-time for my husband's limited company.
I wish to return to working outside of the home, and I felt that I needed some extra training to give me a slight edge in my search for employment back in the secretarial world.
The teacher has made the class so very interesting, and I love the way she challenges us to really think about law and how it applies to different areas of life. I feel like a passion for law has been ignited in me and I am now reading, listening and observing everything to do with law and making notes. I think the way the course has been set out is brilliant; the materials and the CD that have been provided to complete the course are so easy to use and follow. I appreciate that the time frame given to complete the course is quite attainable.
After I complete this course, I am quite inspired to delve deeper into law. This course provides excellent training and a foundation for pursuing a career as a Legal Secretary and beyond. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wishes to pursue a career as a secretary and especially in the area of law.
